The story behind the brand
We are a family-owned house of jewelry, founded by Toufic Abdel Wahed in 1915. We were originally located in the center of the old jeweler’s souks, downtown Beirut, Raad & Hani Street.
Antoine Abdel Wahed (2nd generation), developed the business and introduced the collectible "masabeh" with colorful gemstones imported from Hong Kong and Germany (Idar-Oberstein) to the Lebanese market. The boutique became known as "Le royaume des passetemps" or "Mamlakat al masabeh".
After the devastating civil war, the business moved to Achrafieh, Geitawi, Naoum Labaki Street and is established there since then.
Toufic Abdel Wahed, (3rd generation) developed the masabeh section and focused on the high-end aspect of this middle eastern jewelry. He designed and sold thousands of masabeh using avant-garde production techniques and sold them Lebanese and international clients, mainly in the MENA region.
Apart from the niche market of masabeh, AW jewelers became known as an antiques business, buying and selling vintage jewelry and objets d'art.
Antoine Abdel Wahed (4th generation) had a big interest in expanding the reach of the business by transforming this well established family business to a recognisable jewelry brand.
"Jewels, Art & Design " describes our aim to sell jewelry with the passion of an artist & the expertise of artisan.
